Ingredients
Method
Gather and prepare your ingredients. Line a 20x20cm baking tin with parchment paper.
Put a small amount of water into a kettle and bring to the boil. Place the dates into a shallow bowl and pour over a small amount of boiling water - just enough to cover. Set aside to soak for about 10 minutes, then roughly mash with a potato masher or the back of a fork until you have a spreadable paste.
Place the peanut butter, protein powder, ground almonds, milled chia seeds, maple syrup, and water into a food processor and blend until smooth. Scrape into the prepared tin and press down using the back of a spoon. Then spread out the mashed dates on top as evenly as possible.
Place into the fridge to chill for 30 minutes, until firm. Slice into 12 even-sized bars.
Place the chocolate into a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Heat until melted. Don’t let the chocolate touch the base of the pan or the chocolate might burn.
Arrange a wire rack over a baking tray. Dip the bars into the chocolate, then place on the wire rack, allowing the excess to drip off. Sprinkle with your toppings of choice while still wet. Allow to set for 5-10 minutes, then place into a container for storage in the fridge.

Too wet and didnt hold for me, will give it another go with less water next time
Lazy version: put dates in food processor and add warm water and soak in there. put everything else in food processor, blend, put in tin and just pop choc chips on top. Doesnt = a "bar", somewhat soft but tasty and quicker!
I wouldn't change them.
This is probably the best protein bar I’ve ever had. Anyone who says otherwise didn’t follow the instructions. It’s super delicious and really good for you.
Great, love these and will make again
Easy and delicious! Apparently 'much better than the shop bought ones' according to my husband. I just put a layer of melted chocolate on top and then cut into slices.
Slowly add the water, I think how much you need depends on your protein powder. I’m too lazy to dip so just spread the chocolate on top like a slice. Or do without
I agree with the other reviews - too wet and I used less water on the base and dates. Very floppy when coating with the chocolate . I cut them in half again which made handling and dipping the bars a little easier. Taste ok.
These are excellent! I followed a tip from another user and combined the ingredients together in a bowl. I didn’t add all the water, added as I went and when the mixture looked a little wet, I put more ground almonds to bing together. I only used 50g of chocolate as I sprinkled it over sparingly rather than dousing the bars in the chocolate. Also I cut into squares - makes them last longer. The kids have just had some watching a movie and see them as a Saturday night treat! One more thing: I did 30 mins in fridge as suggested but felt they needed a bit longer to set, so put them in the freezer for another 10. I will be making these again and again. Thanks Dr Rupy
Amazing. I made them to take for snacks for our ski holiday. At Geneva airport right now and as a ceoliac there is nothing I can eat and we’ve had to wait an hour for others to arrive for our transport. Dug them out of my suitcase and the hangrys are gone. And so so yummy.
Too soft needs less water to set properly
These are amazing😍 I cut them into 36 squares instead of bars before covering them in chocolate and sprinkling with rock salt😋
These are so great, to make it easier. I soaked the dates in the 175 ml of water and made the whole lot together in the blender rather than using the dates as a topping, everybody loved them and they only last 3 days between seven people!!
Not sure why but mine was too wet
Loved these, I will make them again and work with the consistency. I had to leave them overnight in the fridge to firm up.
Better than any store bought protein bars. I would even go so far as to say I prefer them to the Belgian chocolates I just received for my birthday.
Getting all ingredients ready before you start mixing is really important otherwise it’s quite messy
Delicious but don't rush the process!
Be careful not to add too much water to the expense dates or you won't get a paste but a slop!
I just mixed the ingredients in a bowl with no food processor (like on the video), and it turned out great. Using the scale made measuring easy, and the texture came out very easy to work with. I had fun making these with my kids. The 8yo helped me dredge the bars in melted chocolate (which was a bit messy but she loved it) and the 5yo enjoyed sprinkling on the toppings.
Very crumbly and dry. It was difficult to coat in the chocolate without the bars breaking and crumbling. Disappointing result.
I made this and added 2 tbsp cocoa and puréed prunes for the top instead of dates. Yum!!!!
Absolutely delicious. Very easy to make and very filling.
Next time I’ll add some cooked chestnuts as another plant.
Definitely a recipe to keep
Put all together in food processor. Choc on top. 1/2 maple syrup sweet enough. So yum.
Fantastic recipe! I did it a bit differently, mixed everything together, including dates, in the food processor. After pressing into a pan I topped with chocolate, chopped pistachios, cocoa nibs and a little flake sea salt. So good! Tastes like a candy bar 👏
Too heavy and dense for me. Felt like I was eating peanut butter straight from the jar. Super easy to make though and I loved the different topping I sprinkled on
Too dry, mixture crumbled when tried to coat it in chocolate
